Rail Replacement Services by buses and coaches are when the rail line becomes unavailable for a significant period due to engineering works and there isn't a suitable diversionary route. These can be either programmed or unplanned after such episodes as bad weather events or incidents like a road vehicle crashing onto the railway. [ I have used such buses / coaches a number of times over the years, and some of those journeys are best forgotten as soon as possible but others were quite enjoyable ]. . not my image : fair use & public information
