IoM[3] - Rotary Club's Wishing Well

13 Aug 2023 75
Should have taken a close up of the plaque. However, research has produced some information ... This is a wishing well that was built in 1957 and presented to the people of Douglas by the Rotary Club, to be used as a means of raising funds for local charities & worthy causes. For the first few years it was in use it raised between £175 and £150 each year, which for the late 1950s was a not inconsiderable amount. Currently used as a small flower bed - there's a fountain at the other end of the sunken gardens that acts as a wishing well.

WR - End of the Henry Vernon row

22 Mar 2011 827
William Riley, and the modern lifeboats at Whitby. Taken on lifeboat day 2008, after "William Riley" had been rowed (by the 'Ales Angles') from Tynemouth to Whitby, to commemorate the journey of the "Henry Vernon" to aid the Rohilla, wrecked at Saltwick Nab on 29th October 1914. To see the crowds on the piers, made all the work worthwhile......and the sponsorship raised some welcome funds for the RNLI.
