I doubt this 1954 image shows many differences to the Library that my late father would have known, although his visits would have been before WW2. Many people reading, studying or working - and it would have been in nearly complete silence ! sadly, not my image ; fair use & public information

This is absolute gold standard advice ... To be honest - if, as an adult you haven't already read these, then perhaps you, too, should visit a library or good second-hand bookshop. There is so much misinformation on the internet - and self-promoting "experts" - that the past few months have been very difficult for those who want, and can recognise, the real truth when they find it. This wonderful building is the old city library. I wish that I had left myself enough time for a courtesy call; one of my early professional mentors worked here - albeit several decades ago.
