Part of a batch of brass door handles, after polishing. Sadly, all these have more or less significant faults, mostly holes / voids in the brass.

Some casting faults in brass door handles - these were, I think, the two worst [largest holes] examples.

More detailed view of the two figures in the foundry. The one in the foreground seems to be loading a pattern into his wheelbarrow and the one at the rear seems to be about to tap (draw off) the supply of molten iron. . Apologies for the poor focus, the light level and the camera were not co-operating.

This is the main iron foundry. When working this vast room would have been very hot, smoke-filled and extremely noisy, plus the risks associated with molten metal and heavy moulds during the casting process. The crane is necessary for handling some of the heavier / larger patterns and castings

Cast Iron sign, with the casting sand brushed off, but little else done. Interesting that this example is in English only.

Display of mainly smaller patterns and castings, with some finished and painted examples on the board at the back.

Nice display of sand moulds as used in an iron foundry. In this case, the lower half of the mould is exposed - the product will be a wheel, as shown standing on the corner, still with the risers and filler attached. . This didn't seem to be explained, so unless you already know what you are looking at here ... . I talked about patterns and casting to several visitors whilst taking this group of images.
