BtC - hole in the beach {3 of 3}

Bella tazzes at great speed about this beach [outer harbour, Whitehaven] occasionally stopping for a quick dig. This time, she went back to one hole she had started earlier, and really went for it. In just over three minutes she had made enough room to lie down.

O&S(meme) - stop digging

Perhaps one had better stop digging that hole one has just put one's foot into before reaching the far side of the world ... [be polite and say sorry !]

rvc[8-22] - erosion in sight

Fascinating ... When the tide comes in, the waves washing across and into this hole will swirl the trapped stone around. This will grind the stone surfaces together, the resulting abrasion will make the hole bigger, at the same time, the entrapped stone will get smaller - and eventually, it will be rinsed out of the hole. Bad weather - ie more violent waves - will probably push another stone into the hole, and the process repeats ...

gbw - wet hole

The woodland walk around the boundary of our holiday site passed a couple of these deep holes. Not sure what caused them, but I don't think they are natural features - mainly the sides are too steep. My suspicion is that they are bomb craters from WW2, as there were a lot of targets around here and as it's not in a field or on a road, it wouldn't have been filled in as a matter of urgency, and being in woodland, may well have been missed.
