IoM[2] - wing drying

Cormorant in the standard "wing drying" pose. Judging by the amount of white visible, this is a juvenile. I hope that he or she has a full crop of food to compensate for the soaking.

Just a couple of the small boats tied up in Peel, and a few others in the background, although not on the visible section of the pontoons. This is the corner where the River Neb expands into Peel Marina.

I believe that, traditionally, these "beasts" were removeable features. This is a rather splendid example. -/-/- This diorama depicts the beaching of a typical Viking longship by her crew. IoM[2] - Peel humour

Thought for the day outside the House of Manannan, Peel. [Part of this museum was the Peel railway station]. Picnic tables give a good view of the harbour / marina and Peel Castle in the distance. . [Originally posted on 30th May 2021 but not "unlocked". Reposted on 13th Sept 2023 and unlocked a little later]

Outside the museum and under the veranda roof [now, I ask myself, was it originally the platform canopy ? the decorative top of the cast iron pillar makes that possible] we found a series of picnic benches. This was the least mucky one - the staff were clearing the rest, it had been busy and they were short-staffed [as a couple of people were not at work - holidays, I think].

MSR[HI] - passengers at Peel. {Date is pre-1912}.

20 Mar 2023 58
Black & White image of passengers grouped at Peel Station. By the costumes, it is probably carnival day in Douglas. Date of the image is pre-1912, from the carriages visible. B1 & A1 formed "Pairs" F62 in 1925. B19 & C1 formed "Pairs" F64 in1912, and the B19 underframe was reused for van G.15. Not my image : Fair Use [research] & public information.

MSR[HI] - opening day in 1873.

30 Apr 2022 87
The official "First Train" to open the service to Peel, at Douglas on Thursday,1st July 1873. The loco is No.1 "Sutherland" - without the cab back sheet. The train would be carrying many dignitaries, as well as the band who were carried in an open waggon next to the "Ducal Saloon" ! Note : the rake of 4-wheelers in the background, as the livery is single colour, these will all be second class B or C designs. The first class [designated A] in the train have the upper sections painted a lighter colour. . . Not my Image : Fair Use & public information

IoM[2] - undersized ?

30 May 2021 86
When is the catch undersized ? Unfortunately, most fish are already dead when the nets are hauled, although the smallest sometimes get away through the mesh. The Lobsters and Crabs more often survive being caught and released .

IoM[2] - lobster pot

That round, rusty metal object is a lobster pot. Took me a while to work it out, being used to seeing the half-cylinder design that is commonly used in the North Sea.

IoM[2] - Peel Station

30 May 2021 94
A group listening to tales of the railway that used to run to Peel. We are standing -approximately - on the railway station platform, there are some suggestions of a campaign for a re-opening of the route. A few minutes later, we waved at {sounds of] the departing train - re-enacting the departure of the last train to Douglas. A recording of the correct sound effects was provided ... [This is part of the shop, in the House of Manannan, the museum in Peel. Most of this building in on a site that was formerly the Peel Railway station.
