Thought for the day outside the House of Manannan, Peel.
[Part of this museum was the Peel railway station].
Picnic tables give a good view of the harbour / marina and Peel Castle in the distance.

Some fancy stonework facings on these pillars and arches in the Cathedral of St German. The internal walls appear to have been plastered.

Nailed or riveted doors to Peel Castle, with a smaller wicket inserted.
From their condition, they date back a good few years !

The south side of the Cathedral of St German, as viewed from by the defensive battery next to the Gatehouse. The red sandstone quoins are a visible feature.

Those cannon command the approach to Peel Harbour as well as to the castle.
[they are relatively small calibre and their carriages are modern replicas].
The gatehouse tower is to the left.

post Napoleonic era re-fortifications. That gun pivot is a buried cannon, and the almost semi-circular track is, I think, a "gun trail" ...

Within the grounds were several patches of wild flowers - Sea Pink or Thrift [Armeria maritima] was quite common. this bank was literally humming with bees.

Extreme weathering of exposed sandstone, once the "hard surface" has been penetrated in some way; note the honeycombing and inclusions. Plus the spiderwebs.
[the layer above is heavily weathered concrete / lime mortar made with "beach aggregate"]

The ruins of the Cathedral of St German, which was abandoned in the 18th century.
[centre left is a ruined bastion from refortifications carried out in about 1860(?) known as "Half-Moon Battery"]

The 10th or 11th century round tower, the remains of a Celtic monastic settlement pre-dating the Viking fortifications. The battlements are a later addition.
To the left is the "Garrison Hall"
