IoM[1]/bmc - view of the Island

View from the observation deck [just above & behind the bridge] as Ben-my-Chree approaches Douglas Bay, Isle of Man. I think the mainly white buildings framed by the aerial array are on Onchan Head, with Douglas further to the left.

dss - Tower of Refuge {1 of 12}

27 Jul 2023 1 107
No.1 A group of small fishing boats, rafted / moored together. The tide is out, so I doubt that there is much water under them. Location is Douglas Bay, not far from the Harbour. The picturesque structure on the island in the background is the "Tower of Refuge" - built in 1832 under the auspices of Sir William Hillary. The wreck of the RMS St George on St Mary's Isle two years before prompted the scheme to build a refuge. It was partially funded by public subscriptions, with Sir William covering the additional funds needed to cover the remaining costs of the architect & builder. IoM[2] - Benches on Douglas Head

03 Apr 2021 98
Picnic area with a splendid view of Douglas Bay and Onchan Head. The statue of Sir William Hillary [founder of what is now the RNLI] overlooks the harbour entrance, the ferry terminal and the Tower of Refuge on Conistor Isle. The area hosts more than just the four picnic table/bench sets in this image. It isn't always this peaceful as this late afternoon view might suggest.
