That crane is attempting to right a capsized waggon, which turned over just at the exit from the roundabout, sorting out took a few hours and caused some disruption to traffic on the A69.

Capsized HGV in the roadworks on the A69 at Hexham - just east of the roundabout which is being rebuilt to reduce congestion, when queued traffic blocks the two lane route onto the roundabout.

These are one set of the authorised (official) routes for very large loads crossing Cumbria (and part of Northumberland). This - and some overnight timings - attempts to reduce the disruption.
The A69 route passes very close to SRR's workshops, so we get some good views.
not my image, and poor resolution ...

Road ambulance has just delivered a casualty into the care of the air ambulance, who will make a quicker transfer to A&E than is possible by road. (update - the casualty was discharged to recover at home a few days later)

Another large load passing along the A69 - this is a wind turbine blade. A chance encounter, hence the distance involved. (Rather than the prime site against the roundabout). Although the escorts were a little more strict about viewing these from close up ...

Apparently, during the early hours "the driver missed the roundabout; it wasn't on his sat-nav". Driver taken to hospital. That waggon is a write-off ditto the load of new bricks, the street lights and crash barriers have also been badly damaged. It took the recovery team until well into the afternoon to get that wreckage back to the road.

Making a right meal of dragging that waggon up the embankment. Some of the now dead new bricks are still to be removed. This was at least the third unsuccessful attempt !

That waggon is a write-off - the cab is wrecked and the trailer's back is broken. The load was new house-bricks, which are now a pile od scrap, suitable only for hardcore. (but will probably end up in landfill)

That subway under the old A69 bridge was flooded, will try to determine the depth on a future visit. That fence is more substantial than it looks, as it was intended to prevent most vehicles ending up in the river.

Looking at the grass bank to the centre / right in this image, a "high tide mark" of dead vegetation can be seen, also some sand deposits on the path. The black dog is Ben, waiting to play with his ball. The bridge overhead is for the A69 - the main Carlisle to Newcastle road.

Off along the A69, an escorted abnormal load (Stabiliser Column). Methinks that waggon driver should have been held at the junction behind him - about 1/4 mile further back - as the road is slightly wider there. (3 of 3 images)

Second of two large tanks (not sure if they were pressure vessels) that required a rolling road block over several days on their way to Blyth, leaving the Haltwhistle roundabout. The escort van tucked in there is the extra-high transit / panel van design for scale.

First of two large tanks, both described as "coalescer" (not sure if they were pressure vessels) that required a rolling road block over several days on their way to Blyth, approaching the Haltwhistle roundabout on the A69. Part of the escort were the cable shifting teams ...
