The interpretation board for the re-erected Gaunless Bridge, now at Locomotion, Shildon.
[At least it is somewhat closer to the original site than when it was on display at the NRM York].
Stephenson's design has some very interesting features.

Information Board
Built 1960 at a cost of £35,500.00. Served in all four nations :-
Broughty Ferry [Scotland] - 1960 to 1978 ; converted to fully self-righting in 1976/77 ; Baltimore [Ireland] 1978 to 1984 ; Lytham St Annes [England] 1985 to 1988 ; Beaumaris [Wales] 1989 to 1991 .
Probably her most famous service was in 1979, she was the first lifeboat launched to the rescue during Fastnet Race disaster, she was on service for over 24 hours. The station displays a special framed certificate of thanks for the 1979 Fastnet Race service.
Sold out of service in 1992, and now berths in Kingswear, Devon [largely unaltered as a pleasure boat].

Blackboard describing the only swallowtail butterfly species to be found in the UK.
The area around Horsey Wind Pump is reputed to have quite a few swallowtail butterflies, but unfortunately, I have failed to see any during my various visits.
Wild caterpillars tend to favour "milk parsley" in the Norfolk Broads, UK. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Papilio_machaon ]

To summarise, the pond was dug in the 1990s and it has become naturalised into the landscape. Wildlife quickly adopted the pond and the islands.

Talking about the choice to use local charcoal & water power but import the iron ore - from Cumbria - and then export the finished iron.
It claims that one mature tree could provide enough charcoal to make two tons of iron. However, this site probably used coppiced woodland to supply the charcoal burners.
