Inchmickery is tiny, only 100 metres by 200 metres, currently uninhabited and a RSPB preserve, mainly for seabirds [which used to include the rare roseate terns]. During both WWI and WW2 the island was used as a gun emplacement. it is no accident that the concrete buildings make the island look (from a distance) like a battleship.
