CoLC - new homes in Northumberland [County]

17 Jan 2025 1 1
The housing situation in Northumberland is actually rather complex. The county has a largely rural population with a few towns and villages, in contrast SE Northumberland is more urbanised, previously relying on coal-mining for employment. Plus it has a large National Park & a rich built landscape heritage. . However, in recent years there has been a good deal of house building in many areas, both rural and urban. Sadly, the national shortage of "affordable" housing to buy or rent is also found here - and I doubt if the increased targets for new & affordable homes will be fully met. {some areas also have the second / holiday / airbnb forcing out local people problem}. . not my image : fair use & public education

CoLC - rent increases in the UK

More evidence that rents are massively increasing all over the UK. {surely this aspect of the cost of living / housing crisis should result in action, perhaps by registration of a fair rent that a landlord may not exceed ?} Not my Image : fair use & public education

CoLC - rental demand vs supply mismatch

30 Jun 2023 78
The disparity between available properties and the demand to rent somewhere to live has got steadily worse over the past few years. In most areas the situation is an unsustainable crisis. Despite landlords being able to charge almost anything for rentals, the stock of available properties for longer term lets continues to shrink. Several reasons for this, in my opinion. Starting with saint maggie's great sell off of council [social] housing under the "right to buy" without allowing councils to build replacements. Currently, the number of buy-to-let landlords is not only decreasing overall but a lot of properties have become short term "airbnb" lets as that is supposedly far more profitable. . not my image : fair use & public education

clch - bottles

If true, this is an interesting way to upcycle waste plastic ! Also helps solve the need for housing and a far better solution than being land-filled or burnt. [ just estimated - that wall ^^^ has already used approximately 500 bottles ] . . . Not my image : Fair Use & public information
