SBB[24]/CyB{14/16} - entrance steps

The first of three sets of steps / bridges that combine into the entrance for Castell y Bere. Definitely would have been difficult obstacles for an attacking army.
However, the wooden sections are in need of repairs / replacement. Wet Wales and passing time have combined to reduce some pieces of the timber to fragments - nothing overtly dangerous, and some repairs have been already been done. However, I hate open riser stairs like these !
BtC - steps in the corner

Sloped sea wall and access steps to the outer harbour beach, Bella manged climbing up here somewhat better than we did !
This block-work is usually covered by a significant depth of sand, but a combination of recent weather - and the "new" concrete slipway nearby - has meant the sand has washed out from the corner.
This makes access very difficult for the less able, especially as some of the wooden battens on the slope above the steps have - again - been damaged or lost completely.

The high tide has brought Ben de-Dog another branch - a snapped off branch from an ash tree.
For the past few visits he has been collecting sticks !
The departing waves stranded that branch in such a way as to partially block the access steps down to the beach.

The recent high tide and onshore weather has heaped up the sand around these steps, compare to the "lowtide" version. (to follow)

The weekend 9th and 10th April 2016 saw some of the highest "spring tides" of the year, this was taken a few minutes after "high tide", in the outer harbour at Whitehaven.

Capstan (remains) pulley block and mooring bollard on the west pier, Whitehaven. The sets of railing protect sets of steps, some of which are rather worn and require greater care. To the left is the route of the pier railway, showing as the surface has been cut away into a channel for the track alignment.
