SoS[25] - some goat willow catkins
19 Mar 2025 |
|
not many showing but the goat willow has finally started to open the catkins.
rvc[3-25] - wall seats
14 Mar 2025 |
|
|
Almost all the way back to the car park we used, when we stopped for a short rest, in this little gully, making use of these seats - a real sun-trap even this late in the afternoon. There's a tiny stream down there at the bottom of the gully, hence the bridge. Don't know the name & can't find the relevant OS map to look it up.

rvc[3-25] - busy beach
14 Mar 2025 |
|
By the time we had walked along the beach, almost to the Rendezvous Cafe, it was noticeable just how many people - and their dogs / children - had come out for a wander.
The flat rocks do have pools, but normally very little in the way of marine life. This flat rock formation is known as a wave-cut platform, and is often hidden by sand. [Can't take a Geographer anywhere]
rvc[3-25] - The Lighthouse
14 Mar 2025 |
|
Zoomed in a bit to concentrate on the lighthouse. Focus is not the best - a combination of zooming, my hand shaking the camera and the sea-mist.
Was sunny, even if the breeze was a little too brisk for me.
rvc[3-25] - St Mary's lighthouse
14 Mar 2025 |
|
Despite the sea-mist, St Mary's Lighthouse was visible as we walked along the beach.
Seems like the winter storms have exposed the local rocks - showing as a wave-cut platform formation - not many rook pools at the moment. It is remarkably busy for a Sunday afternoon at this time of year, although the weather has been better than the forecast - sunny, if a very cold breeze.
SBB[24]/dwb{6/6} - helicopters
06 Sep 2024 |
|
Well, that was interesting - those tiny specks are five helicopters out of the six or seven that have just flown overhead, playing follow that chopper, but too far apart to get into one shot. [Put "Notes" around them, Nos.1,2 and 3 are particularly small / faint]

smr[18] - Car 5 at the summit
30 May 2021 |
|
|
SMR Car No.5 approaching the summit terminus.
The building used to be hotel, but now contains a cafe.
Supplies come up with the first tram in the morning and rubbish descends with the last tram of the day.
[Sadly, the cafe wasn't dog-friendly and there was little or no shelter from smokers or the wind]
I've not included pictures taken at the summit, away from the SMR, in this album ...
hst - distant pier
30 Jun 2023 |
|
|
Looking westwards along the Prom to the distant pier, over the beach "gravel & shells" and a lonely picnic table, there's a few more behind me, and a large car park to the right.
It's at the end of a sunny & hot Sunday afternoon, and people are finally coming off the beach and heading home - or for food and a drink.
There was a complementary supply of bottled water in the car park, which seemed to have been both a good idea and very popular - hopefully stopped some heat related health incidents..

Highlighted by the cloudless blue sky above, this year's crop of catkins are getting very fluffy.

Clear blue sky above the thatched roof of the Acle Bridge Inn.
If you look quite closely, the moon is just visible.
We've just had a meal, which was very good.
IoM[2] - Port Erin bay and beach

Isn't this a nice view ? Sun, sand with blue sky and bluer sea !
Port Erin, Isle of Man
There is a small lighthouse on the end of the short pier.
IoM[2] - walking on the beach
30 May 2021 |
|
Walking across the beach and past the harbour at low tide, Port Erin.
We had not seen the notice telling people that dogs were not allowed on the beach. But Ben didn't even leave a pee-mail, much less a solid deposit. And he was treated for internal / external parasites the day before we came on over on holiday. There was a spaniel further along ... but I didn't hear anyone yelling at them.

A well developed example of "Wave", seen whilst travelling towards Bristol on the M5.
