CoLC - fewer new homes; by English regions

The recent decline in new homes being completed [comparing 2023 & 2024] is a trend visible - at varying levels of seriousness - throughout all the English regions. . Not my Image : fair use & public information

clch - hedge density in England

31 Dec 2024 1 27
Hedges are an important environmental asset, in two ways. Probably firstly as an aid to supporting biodiversity [ for a hedge that hasn't been "replanted" - a greater number of native species indicates a greater age ] and secondly, regularly maintained hedges are an important means of absorbing carbon dioxide. Note : in the name of "improving farming" a lot of hedges have been grubbed out to allow larger machines to work in larger fields, the crops tend to be monocultures and require a lot of chemical support. . ScI[23] - Union Chain Bridge

01 Dec 2023 4 1 112
The Chain Bridge is just four miles upstream from Berwick upon Tweed, as seen from the south west. Originally built in 1820 as largely designed by a Royal Navy Caption Samuel Brown, when opened it was the longest wrought iron suspension bridge [ at 449 feet / 137m]. It is currently listed "Cat 'A'" and is on several other historic landmark registers. It was reopened in April 2023 after a lengthy and expensive restoration, and is now the oldest bridge still open to vehicles, with weight & width restrictions. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Union_Chain_Bridge

clch - rainfall, Jan-June, England & Wales

30 Aug 2022 80
The lack of rain in the first half of 2022 is going to be a problem - the winter / spring rainfall season usually tops up the surface water storage in the UK, especially in SE England. . Not my Image ; fair use & public information

clch - CO2 emissions, High Peak & Northumberland

01 Dec 2021 97
This highlights the relative changes in these two areas. Note the significant changes in "Industry" and "Land & Forestry" - For Northumberland, the former is the closure of the Lynmouth Aluminium smelter and the later is mainly felling trees & replanting in Kielder Forest. . . clch - CO2 emissions England [map - 2005 to 2019]

01 Dec 2021 100
Northumberland's reduction in CO2 during this period was probably due to the closure of the smelter at Lynmouth and the associated power station. {Although, in 2022, I believe this now relies on Biomass for fuel instead of the previously locally-mined coal. I don't think this takes into account the [net] removal of CO2 by the trees in the extensive areas of Kielder Forest, which is in Northumberland]. . . Not my Image ; Fair Use & public information

cvd - age mapped covid infections 2020

11 Oct 2020 137
UK (specifically England) age mapped covid cases, 05 July to 04 October 2020. Points to note are the rise in 10-19 & 20 - 29 ages brackets, I surmise that these are mostly "students" so actually 18/19 to 21/22 years old and away at universities. With subsequent spreading out into the older age groups in the wider community. Time for another, targeted lockdown before this gets any further out of control. cvd - UK tiers, late December 2020

30 Jan 2021 1 1 156
As a consequence of spreading in the community of the "new variant" [which probably started in late November / early December - also known as the 'Kent variant'], the UK government altered the tiers [restrictions] with effect from boxing day ie 26th December 2020. It was quickly clear this was insufficient, and national restrictions [similar to the Spring 2020 lockdown] were brought in from 4th January 2021. Not My Image : Fair use & public information

30 Jan 2021 1 150
As caption - NHS England's reported vaccination rates for the over 80s cohort, to the 21st January 2021. Actual vaccination delivered is not stated (will be either Pfzier or AstraZeneca) There are some significant regional variations, there have been discussions as to the causes of these. Suggestions include - access to vaccination hubs, low take-up from BAME groups and difficulties with organising vaccine supplies. Not My Image : Fair Use & public information.
