Iron doors blocking what looks like a tunnel, far side of the railway from the beach. At least one bricked up "window" in the "abutment".

What appears to be an area of foreshore that has been concreted over, there are several layers. The reason appears to be in connection with sea defences.

Remains in the landscape from two eras. The concrete in the foreground is from a WW2 gun emplacement and the stonework in the background is probably a nineteenth century lime kiln (or something from an iron foundry).

whn - whitey rock

This conspicuous feature on the shoreline, underneath Bransty, is "whitey rock" ... This slag bank is almost the only feature remaining to mark the location of the Lonsdale Haematite Ironworks, which ceased production at the very start of the twentieth century, just after Whitehaven's shipyards had closed, greatly reducing demand.
