Whitby 's No 2 lifeboat, the 'Jacob and Rachael Vallentine', being lifted by a steam crane, prior to being loaded onto a train at the LNER Poplar goods depot, UK. It has just been reconditioned and four horses were needed to haul it from the docks to where it was placed on the train. It is 34 feet long and with a beam of 8.5 feet. . Traditionally, horses were used to help launch early lifeboats. Often, these came from local farms or haulage businesses. Thwaites Brewery have brought along a couple of the heavy horses that usually haul the show dray. The grooms have begun tacking up these two beauties ready for the part in front of the camera.
