SBB[24]/VoR{30/34} - detail of 'Blazing Sun'

05 Sep 2024 61
British Rail : 1948-1964, First Class Moquette fabric. This is one of the “Festival of Britain” group of Designs, first introduced in 1951 for the new range of British Railways Standard coaches (later known as the “Mark 1” fleet) and used in First Class compartments and dining saloons. It is a textured moquette [mixed cut & loop pile] and the design is known as "Blazing Sun". [to my eyes, the central motif looks more like a circular saw blade !]

O&S(meme) - mural

That is one weird mural - it looks like a giant version of one of those colouring / doodle books that used to be very popular a few years ago. . Not my Image : fair use & public entertainment

par / O&S (meme) - plank n ostrich

02 Oct 2020 128
This grain pattern, or a variation of it, is remarkably common in softwood planks. With a little imagination, it is possible to see some resemblance to an ostrich or similar bird. An example of pareidolia (seeing faces or other objects in natural patterns and features). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pareidolia Not my Image (although I've seen several versions myself) posted for education / fair comment purposes.

What gets left behind when you cut bits out ... quite a bit more will be cut from this tomorrow ... to produce some packing pieces for another job. Waste not. as they say!

nsm - cast iron sign

Cast Iron sign, with the casting sand brushed off, but little else done. Interesting that this example is in English only.

nsm - casting floor

Nice display of sand moulds as used in an iron foundry. In this case, the lower half of the mould is exposed - the product will be a wheel, as shown standing on the corner, still with the risers and filler attached. . This didn't seem to be explained, so unless you already know what you are looking at here ... . I talked about patterns and casting to several visitors whilst taking this group of images.
