Hawthorn / quickthorn [Crataegus monogyna] lots of fresh green leaves, and closer examination revealed some flower buds. Frequently planted as field hedges, Hawthorn grows quickly into a thorny mass, which, when kept trimmed, will usually be livestock resistant. Especially, when planted close together and "laid" at suitable intervals.
