BtC - on the fell

Ian and Bella on their way back down from the fell. They have paused for a short breather. The ground surface is quite lumpy under the long grass and Bella has been having fun tazzing about and then sniffing everything.
The grass has been allowed to grow so long only because the grazing - classed as "rough" - has not been let out for a couple of years, although there were a few ewes running in here late spring.

Wild pansies in the meadow alongside the River South Tyne.
This whole area looks purple from a distance during peak flowering in June & July !

There was quite a lot of this in the dunes.
ID to follow - this is probably one of the extensive Hawkweed family.

Closer view of some of the masses of wild pansies that are turning the lunchtime meadow grassland into a blue/purple expanse of wildflowers.

Most summers in recent years this meadow has been carpeted with wild pansies, flowering for most of the summer - this little patch were still going strong on the 5th September 2015. One of several patches, to my surprise.
