IoM[3] - Tower & breakwater {HFF}

Viewed from Douglas [Loch] Promenade ... The combined fence and wall protects the drop from the Promenade down to the beach, depending on what Manannan has done with the beach sand, that drop can be quite a few feet. On the left is Conister Isle, with the Tower of Refuge, built in 1832 by Sir William Hillary after the wreck of the packet St. George in 1830. Breakwaters & Piers of Douglas Harbour. On the right - that's "Corinthian" not sure of her status, she's moored on the outside of the Victoria Pier. [HFF'd on 19thSept2023 - no visits before 09:00]

IoM[3]/bmc - we have no ferries ...

The linkspan berths are all empty as none of the ferries are at Douglas. No idea where Mannanan and the Manxman are at this time. I presume the former is somewhere between Douglas and Liverpool, but Manxman was in Douglas earlier in the day ... Ben-my-Chree will arrive shortly.

No.1 A group of small fishing boats, rafted / moored together. The tide is out, so I doubt that there is much water under them. Location is Douglas Bay, not far from the Harbour. The picturesque structure on the island in the background is the "Tower of Refuge" - built in 1832 under the auspices of Sir William Hillary. The wreck of the RMS St George on St Mary's Isle two years before prompted the scheme to build a refuge. It was partially funded by public subscriptions, with Sir William covering the additional funds needed to cover the remaining costs of the architect & builder. Apologies for the reflections - taken from the passenger bridge at the sea terminal as we disembarked.

IoM[1] - Tower of Refuge

Sir William Hillary's "Tower of Refuge" , as seen from Loch Promenade. The amount of rocky shoals around there goes some way to explain the number of shipwrecks.
