Packhorse Bridge, probably dating from the 18th Century, over the Mosedale Beck [Behind the Wasdale Head Inn - formerly the Wast Water Hotel]. Grade II listed. It is a segmental arch of approximately 15ft span, built from vertical slabs. The concreted walkway is without parapets and about 3ft wide.

whn - rebuilt wall-head

A nicely rebuilt gate-end or wall-head. Note the use of very large stones to keep the structure stable. Also note that the wall is not capped by coping stones, as it is still being used as a clearance or consumption wall, ie one built of stones cleared from the enclosed fields. The gateway and the track / footpath I am standing on are covered in cobbles - medium sized stones - used to reinforce the surface in wet weather, especially as this is a well-walked route.

whn - rivetted tank

Interesting water [feed ?] tank sitting in a field above the Wasdale Head Inn. Overall condition, well rusted ! Rivetted iron plate, with the top edge reinforced with a D-section strap. There are a couple of flanged outlet / inlet ports, without pipework, and some rust worm has made more holes. It looks, to me, like a small mining tub that has been modified ...

whn - Cloudless sky

The deep blue of a cloudless sky, as seen from Wasdale Head. A lovely Spring day - and warm in the sunshine [shade was a touch too cool for comfort] . Many of the dry stone walls are built from rounded stones, and are more clearance than simple boundary lines. Sadly, clumsy tourists knock them down very easily ... .

WHN - Wasdale Head + snow

Ben looking for the car, after we've had a splendid meal at Wasdale Head Inn. He's found it ! We were looking the other way, at Great Gable when he went trotting off to look for "Honey" [a pale gold Rover 25]
