oad (g&h) - Maud's night-shift
21 Jan 2025 |
|
|
Normally, anything left on top of Maud's cage gets knocked onto the floor, so to find that she'd spent some time pulling this plastic carrier bag inside was a distinct change. A little longer and she might have got it all inside !

The label from a freshly purchased habitat - however, it will have a pair of gerbils, instead.
oad(g&h) - new lady hamster [3 of 14]

Freshly arrived [28th May 2022] and as yet un-named ... also, she is very young, exceptionally shy and therefore difficult to photograph.
E2A - Sadly, her personality turned aggressive, despite all the gentle handling / habituation and stimulation such as time in an exercise ball that was offered. She bit people without warning and became impossible to handle without risk. She had a stroke and was PTS at the beginning of March 2023.

*RIP* Patch - crossed the Rainbow Bridge on 30th September 2023.
.
Meet Patch, a black and white Syrian Hamster that has just joined our menagerie on 17th March 2022. {imaged 27th march 2022} A little over a week ago - counted and it's actually 10 days ...
He is young and quite shy, but enjoys the facilities in his enclosure, especially the wheel - once he learnt how to control it properly.
Once he is a little less shy, a few more images will appear, to add to this one of his backside !
He very quickly learnt to race a floor ball, and gained proficiency in chasing Ben de-Dog and bumping into our feet and ankles or neatly avoiding the same obstacles.
[originally imaged on 27th March 2022 and posted on 4th April 2022.

oad (g&h) - Elmer & Ben

Our elderly Syrian Hamster [Elmer] was out for some handling and a run (climb) on the sofa when Ben de-Dog decided to investigate, by putting his head on the sofa. With a little extra support and balance, Elmer climbed onto the side of his nose and Ben didn't even blink !
[Something that happens regularly, but I don't usually have the camera out ready]

Jimmie the hamster, hoping the food bowl is about to be refilled - despite having hoarded most of what had been put into said bowl the previous day.
He has just been out for some handling and then a run around the floor in his Ball. The latter was something with which he had plenty of fun and practiced enough to have sufficient skill to navigate around people and other obstacles.
Taken through the top of his habitat in April 2017.

Millie stocking up on food, although she sometimes eats here, the usual method is to pouch her scran, hightail it back to her nest and store the spoils in the undercroft. This is then easily accessible for the midnight feasts, which fuel the midnight spins in the big wheel.

True to type, Millie enjoys her wheel. She can get up to quite a speed. A night time fast run is her speciality !

We have a house guest - this is "Finlay" the hamster meeting Ben de-dog.
Before anyone says anything, the hamster can take care of himself - and his heart rate didn't change at all during this encounter !
