IoM[2]LW - overview of "Lady Isabella"

This view gives an impression of just how big the Laxey Wheel is ... The person in the red coat is about 5' 3" tall.

IoM[2]LW - both sides of the turnstile

A wider view of the whole turnstile. I think the left-hand side may have been modified for accessibility reasons, which since there are full gates on the other [exit] side of the building to the right, seems a little over the top. [It does need a little tlc, especially with the paintwork]

IoM[2]LW - turnstile detail

Cast plaque included in the turnstile's structure - detailing the maker etc. This sort of thing fascinates me. I think this one could do with a little tlc, and highlighting the text. Red is a common colour for barriers [because Red = STOP] but the pigments fade very quickly in sunlight.

The turnstile controlling the entrance to the Laxey Wheel Museum. Well worth the visit, Lady Iabella [the Wheel] is magnificent ! [see the/my first comment, below]

Definitely this a masterpiece of construction. And still turns !

IoM[2]LW - spare crank

The spare or extra crank for "Lady Isabella" - this connects the wheel to the horizontal rods that connect to the vertical pumping rods. This has never been used, if there had been a need for more pumping power, the plan was to install this on the other side of Lady Isabella, to operated an additional set of rods ... Left here in 1854, it forms a useful seat as one walks up the side of the hill.
