ssm - narrow gauge railway

Well, it's a railway ... a simple oval around part of the Strumpshaw Hall site, about 1/2 mile in length. Single coach hauled by a mock-steam-outline engine. Underneath the fake bodywork is a Simplex. Built by Motorail of Bedford in 1937. Model 7192 20/28 hp. Originally supplied to River Wye Catchment Board, Hereford, with a Dorman 2HW diesel [No FD 29992]. Now powered by a three-cylinder Perkins. Engine carries the name "Jimmy" in memory of James Key, and the station is now "Strumpshaw Halt" after the renovations in 2009/10.

Another "Quarry Hunslet" running along behind the slate museum, this 2ft gauge line is the Llanberis Lake Railway (aka Rheilffordd Llyn Padarn) and the engine seen here is "Elidir" . more info :- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Llanberis_Lake_Railway
