CoLC - food inflation [UK] 2020-2024

19 Dec 2024 1
Inflation is a strange thing - much of that rise in prices was in early-mid 2022 and was a direct and largely panic response to the ru55ian invasion of Ukraine - but probably due to the hikes in costs as a consequence of sanctions on oil / gas pushing up energy prices. Additionally; covid-19, bird flu and brexit have all affected food prices in an inflationary manner. . Not my Image : fair use & public information

CoLC - shop prices in August 2024

01 Sep 2024 27
How prices have varied ... A general fall to August 2024 has been pushed by non-food prices [white goods ?] being heavily discounted as inflation in other aspects of people's lives constrains their spending- and a fall in food prices from their 2023 peak. . CoLC - trolley of 72 like4like items in supermarke…

18 Mar 2024 2 21
Published in February 2024, Which? [UK's consumer rights organisation] carried out a price survey in the UK's leading food supermarkets by buying a list of 72 like-for-like items. The prices charged varied from £125.43 to £162.94 for a mixture of branded and own label items. So much for "price matched" campaigns ... , Not my image : fair use & public education

sbr - leaving ...

04 Aug 2024 37
Some people were starting to drift off - perhaps in search of lunch ... although at least one group were off to try each other's transport. The Market Cross aka the Butter Cross [to the left] had been taken over the local WI [?] who were dispensing hot & cold / soft drinks as well as sweet and savoury snacks. Plus the Ice Cream van ... which was very useful. {Alcohol was available from the Swinburne Arms, if you wanted it, but I don't drink and drive, especially when on a bike. The Bay Horse, in the background, has - sadly - been closed for some years}

oad[B] - brunch

Beauty has settled down to eat her brunch. [breakfast was several hours ago and she's made it clear she wanted a top up] The drink is diluted skimmed milk - she's not lactose-intolerant - which she prefers to plain water, which is always available. The incision for the amputation has healed very cleanly and the fur is beginning to grow back. Walking still isn't that easy, she sometimes forgets that her remaining back leg needs to move in more frequent, shorter steps and ends up in a rather extended stretch !

The "ghost sign" on the wall of Arrighi's - established in 1908. Sadly, I suspect that it was another victim of the covid-19 pandemic.

Sad post-covid state of one of the better Fish & Chips establishments [technically, a seafood restaurant and wine bar, dating form 1908] in Whitehaven - was dog-friendly, too.

twc - snatched meals

After a few nights of eating on the back doorstep, the dish was gradually brought further and further inside. It took quite some time before we could shut the door, even partway. We did discover that it was very partial to a well-known brand of cat-treats.

clch - carbon footprint : foods

The "carbon footprint" of commonly available foods. This can be used to chose foods with a lower environmental impact. However, it is not clear if processing and transport factors are included in these types of lists. . . Not my Image ; Fair Use & public information
