The power of iron rusting is demonstrated by the splits in the timber around what were bolts and screws.

Having dug out the rusted remains of the fixing screws, some timber plugs have been inserted to give the new fixings something to bite into. The split was glued and clamped shut., The intended result was achieved as this area returned to the proper shape.

Timber shrinkage at these joints has been repaired using thin timber fillets. (Sorry that this is in soft focus, modern technology was having a minor tantrum - this was the best of several efforts!)

Some of he blank sections for repairing the uprights are starting to take shape. More to follow ! These will require some more shaping before they will be ready for use.

Meet the sole surviving "Knotty" steam locomotive, currently on display in 'Locomotion' at Shildon. As of April 2016 this engine has been re-located to the Foxfield Railway. There is a NSR battery loco in the national collection, as well.

This is the sole surviving "Knotty" steam locomotive, currently on display in 'Locomotion' at Shildon. . It postdates the withdrawal of NSRs 61 & 127, so they would not have met in pre-reservation days. . As of April 2016 this engine has been re-located to the Foxfield Railway
