Cartoon commentating on the policy that some energy suppliers have with regard to the forced fitting of pre-payment meters [these work on a much more expensive tariff and are often forced onto consumers with a debt / poor credit rating]. Given just how much gas prices in particular have increased recently [and I use LPG, which is even more costly] I'm not sure how much help these suggestions will be to me. we already have the thermostat down to as low as we can - and on a timer to reduce use. we already have almost all lights as LEDs we already have a small dishwasher and use the washing machine economically. In the winter we do need to use a dryer. we could do a re-draught-proofing exercise, but that would have a minimal benefit. All windows [but one room] are already double-glazed. . A further, significant rise in wholesale gas prices. This is happening at a time when the more vulnerable members of the UK population are already under a great deal of financial stress. Some of those on fixed incomes will be faced with the choice of "heat or eat", they will not be able to afford both. A total of 22 [+ 1] energy companies have gone bust since 1st September 2021 [to 30th November 2021] Note :- the +1 is "Bulb Energy" which is in a form of special administration as a preventative measure against insolvency. The root cause has been the excessive increases in gas prices, which because of fixed price deals & various regulations can't be passed on to the consumer [therefore the supplier spends more than their income and goes bust]. . .
