4-wheel Brake van E.5 [built 1876] at end of the south line platform in Douglas Station.
[Image date ?? 1950s / 1960s ?? ] In two-tone [brown ?] livery, with the duckets removed and boarded up.
The doors aren't in the best of condition and the main waist panel has a long split - at least 12", maybe 18" long in it.
Long since scrapped.

Former passenger brake van E1 behind the carriage shed, Douglas - during June 1967. The panelling and doors are in very poor condition. The underframe doesn't look too healthy, either !
[webfind forwarded to me, original image by late Douglas Robinson].

MSR[HI] - "E" class
14 Nov 2022 |
|
A former "E" class brake van at Douglas, currently lettered as part of the "Loco Dept" rolling stock.
Possibly E5 ? as no sign of a single door, or a ducket [E1 - the ex-MNR van, had replacement horizontal planking and a single door at what would be the nearer end in this image].
scanned image / webfind [ref research into the 1873 4-wheelers].

Liveried as a Manchester Ship Canal brake van, representing the vehicles that would have been trundling around the docks in Gloucester and the Sharpness Canal. It is due to move elsewhere, in a few months.
According to the Vintage Carriages Trust this is an ex-GWR Toad, DW35342; in Manchester Ship Canal livery, branded 'Ellesmere Port'.
