The water in the Queen's Dock has turned an unpleasant shade of murky orange / brown. This first happened sometime in late November 2022. The depth of colour varies according to how much rain and sea water has diluted the supply from Bransty Beck. Various investigations have taken place since then as to the materials present and potential sources, no doubt there will be prolonged arguments as to who pays to clean it up ... . However, when I first saw images, my immediate reaction was that this pollution was because water draining from local mine-workings was contaminated with Ferric Oxide [aka RUST] or related compounds. I have seen similar colours, and probably from this cause in the Bridgewater Canal. . Currently, it is suspected that the contaminated water is entering Bransty Beck via drainage ducts in Corkickle tunnel. . The only minor advantage is that it is acting as a potent antifouling solution, and seems to be removing the "tube worm" that infests the marina.
