Seats and tables outside "King's" - the refreshment room at Wharf Station [Talyllyn Railway], plus a water bowl for canines. We've just had a snack and hot drinks. The bridge in the background is a tight fit for trains ... not a normal running day but there are two "photo-charters" out there.

Sadly I don't think this class 37 will move much. This is D6898 aka 37198{TOPS}. The Class 37s were designed by English Electric and built at their Robert Stephenson and Hawthorns works in Darlington. D6898 was the final locomotive built at the works before its closure. 37198 was withdrawn from service in 1999 and preserved before being resold to Network Rail in 2008. Hickins' has a few interesting features ... Today, Table 9 is adorned with cats for the condiments. We came by for a snack / quick lunch and then to give Ben de-Dog a short walk, he's getting to be too old and arthritic to do longer walks, unless the route is almost flat. [He managed about half a mile today quite happily, and another, much shorter walk later on - although the second one had a bit of a steep climb involved]

Now a common sight - Ben and Beauty eating their meals alongside each other, in this case, it's breakfast. Although Ben always finishes first - well, he IS a Labrador, after all - he has not attempted to filch her food at mealtimes. Even when she runs off before finishing - usually because she's still very nervous. . Partly because he's quite elderly, Ben's dish sits on a little "table" - actually a small step / stool. The extra height helps his swallowing / digestion.

Remarkably comfortable places to sit & eat, to relax or just watch the sea. Someone - I presume the local council - has been improving the seafront facilities at Roker.

Only three pieces of the house's original furniture have survived. One of these, a large refectory table, which is displayed in the Great Hall.

I had to look twice at the bird - this piece of public street art is a mock-up of a riverside mooring, with a cormorant in their typical "wing drying" pose on top. I've seen this design of mini-gabions as bench and table legs several times - at least they can't be chucked around ...

It was too wet to even think about sitting outside, although some hardy souls were using the chairs. Taken before our post-prandial stroll ... and daylight is starting to fade because of the thick cloud. However, we did hear rail traffic a couple of times.

this picnic table top is painted in the same "come chat to me" colours as the "sit & chat" bench seen earlier. Also, the nearer side has an accessible section.

Saw this brightly coloured bench in the distance as I came down into this section of the sunken garden. it is, apparently, a place to sit if you want someone to talk with you [see next image - close-up of the plaque & there's an accessible picnic table with a similar table top paint job]

All fifteen of the Congress members sitting around the cafe table, we are having a few snacks and drinks after our private and personalised tour around the winery - which included some samples ... I was interested to find out the range of things that can be turned into wine - oak leaves was the oddest, as far as I was concerned. Mine is the empty chair (CAS to the immediate left of it) - there are some more detailed views to follow, in which some participants will be identified.

Here are two goats making using one of the picnic tables at Stracey Arms wind pump, as a sunshade. Work is continuing on the restoration, some re-pointing was done recently and a new path gravelled with some areas concreted. The new turf behind is slipping slightly as it isn't pegged down and the goats keep kicking it !

Outside the museum and under the veranda roof [now, I ask myself, was it originally the platform canopy ? the decorative top of the cast iron pillar makes that possible] we found a series of picnic benches. This was the least mucky one - the staff were clearing the rest, it had been busy and they were short-staffed [as a couple of people were not at work - holidays, I think].
