The Kudremukha township developed primarily as an iron ore mining town where the government ran Kudremukha Iron Ore Company Ltd. (KIOCL). This public sector company operated for almost 30 years but was closed in 2006 due to environmental issues.

When I was standing on the edge of this higher place, I heard a low voiced road, as if asking me to keep away. I raced back to the car which was about 50 feet from this point!

Shah of Iran financed the Kudramukha Iron Ore project. Once I left the country, the next administration not being interested in Ore import, the project was abandoned.
Government of State of Karnataka decided not to pursue the business. The people of the State and media wanted the Western Ghats be left to nature!
