We had visited the Great Dismal Swamp in Suffolk, Virginia, USA, along the road to Lake Drummond and stopped for the boardwalk to the Underground Railroad Pavilion. We were approached by a ranger who stopped to ask if we had seen the rattlesnake. A previous visitor reported the sighting. The Timber Rattlesnake, likely a female, was resting in the vegetation next to the boardwalk. We had walked right past her and did not see her until the ranger pointed her out to us.
