2.8:1 Macro Set-up

23 Jun 2013 1 1 496
This is the set-up I am currently using to achieve my 2.8:1, at the sensor, macro images. I am able to get this magnification by stacking teleconverters between the macro lens with its 1:1 tube and the camera. The items in this set-up include, from left to right: 1. Tamron Adaptall-2 Model 52BB 90mm f2.5 Macro Lens, shown fully extended for closest focus and highest magnification. 2. Tamron Adaptall-2 18f 1:1 Tube. 3. Tamron Adaptall-2 140f 1.4X Flat Field Teleconverter. 4. Tamron Adaptall-2 01f 2X Flat Field Teleconverter. 5. Tamron Adaptall-2 Pentax K A Mount. 6. Pentax K20D Camera with attached neck strap and electronic flash extended. For this image, I used my Canon Digital Rebel XT (350D) Camera and AF Canon EF-S 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 (Kit) Lens, hand held, manually focused, Focal Length 38mm, ISO 400, f18, 1/200 sec, with fill-in lighting from camera's built-in electronic flash. This is a full resolution Large JPEG and is Straight Out Of Camera without any post-production, editing, adjustment, cropping, or re-sizing.

This is an image of my current 2:1, at the sensor, macro set-up. This set-up has a few changes over my earlier set-ups and this image reflects these changes. The individual items in this set-up, left to right, are: 1. Tamron Adaptall-2 Model 52BB 90mm f2.5 Macro Lens, shown fully extended for closest focus and highest magnification. 2. Tamron Adaptall-2 18f 1:1 Tube. 3. Tamron Adaptall-2 01f 2X Flat Field Teleconverter with attached Tamron Adaptall-2 Pentax K A Mount. 4. Pentax K20D Camera with attached neck strap and electronic flash extended. For this image, I used my Canon Digital Rebel XT (350D) Camera and AF Canon EF-S 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 (Kit) Lens, hand held, manually focused, Focal Length 54mm, ISO 400, f6.3, 1/200 sec, with fill-in lighting from camera's built-in electronic flash. This is a full resolution Large JPEG and is Straight Out Of Camera without any post-production, editing, adjustment, cropping, or re-sizing.

Cessna On Approach

I was attempting to image some birds on the grounds of Mud Creek Environmental Learning Center in Ghent, New York, USA, when this very large bird appeared. Airplane photo ops are always an option at Mud Creek as this facility borders the southern end of Columbia County Airport and the aircraft usually approach their landings directly over Mud Creek. For this image, I used my manual focus Tamron Adaptall-2 Model 55BB SP 500mm f8 Mirror Lens and Tamron Adaptall-2 140f 1.4X Flat Field Teleconverter with attached Tamron Adaptall-2 Pentax KM Mount on Pentax K20D Camera, hand held, manually focused, Shake Reduction set to 700mm focal length, ISO 400, f8 on lens, 1/500 sec, with available ambient light. This is a full resolution Large JPEG and is Straight Out Of Camera (SOOC) and is without any post-processing, editing, adjustment, cropping, or re-sizing. This lens was functioning as a 700mm f11 telephoto lens.
