2.8:1 Macro Set-up

23 Jun 2013 1 1 495
This is the set-up I am currently using to achieve my 2.8:1, at the sensor, macro images. I am able to get this magnification by stacking teleconverters between the macro lens with its 1:1 tube and the camera. The items in this set-up include, from left to right: 1. Tamron Adaptall-2 Model 52BB 90mm f2.5 Macro Lens, shown fully extended for closest focus and highest magnification. 2. Tamron Adaptall-2 18f 1:1 Tube. 3. Tamron Adaptall-2 140f 1.4X Flat Field Teleconverter. 4. Tamron Adaptall-2 01f 2X Flat Field Teleconverter. 5. Tamron Adaptall-2 Pentax K A Mount. 6. Pentax K20D Camera with attached neck strap and electronic flash extended. For this image, I used my Canon Digital Rebel XT (350D) Camera and AF Canon EF-S 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 (Kit) Lens, hand held, manually focused, Focal Length 38mm, ISO 400, f18, 1/200 sec, with fill-in lighting from camera's built-in electronic flash. This is a full resolution Large JPEG and is Straight Out Of Camera without any post-production, editing, adjustment, cropping, or re-sizing.

Rattlesnake Portrait

We had visited the Great Dismal Swamp in Suffolk, Virginia, USA, along the road to Lake Drummond and stopped for the boardwalk to the Underground Railroad Pavilion. We were approached by a ranger who stopped to ask if we had seen the rattlesnake. A previous visitor reported the sighting. The Timber Rattlesnake, likely a female, was resting in the vegetation next to the boardwalk. We had walked right past her and did not see her until the ranger pointed her out to us. This image shows the face of the snake among the vegetation. For this image, I used my Canon Digital Rebel XT (350D) Camera and attached AF Tamron Model 572D 70-300mm f4-5.6 LD Tele-Macro Lens, manually focused, hand held, macro mode, Focal Length 300mm, ISO 1600, f25, 1/200 sec, with fill-in flash from camera's built-in electronic flash. This is a full resolution Large JPEG and is Straight Out Of Camera (SOOC) and is without any post processing, editing, adjustment, cropping, or re-sizing.

Dew Drop

This image has been my most popular, most commented, and most favorited on my flickr account. I imaged this one on August 04, 2007, after introducing my then new Canon Digital Rebel XT (350D) camera body to my old 1973 vintage Pre-AI MicroNikkor 55mm f3.5 lens and Nikon PK-3 1:1 extension tube and the full set of of Vivitar AT-3 extension rings plus Fotodiox Nikon F mount to Canon EOS mount adapter ring, resting on a homemade "Bean Bag," manually focused, stop-down metered in Av mode, with available ambient lighting. This image was slightly cropped and exposure values were tweaked in MS Photo Editor where the EXIF file was removed.
