The platforms at the west end of Bristol Temple Meads were a good location to observe the comings and goings at Bath Road Diesel Depot. Here we see Brush Type 4 No 1635 at the entrance/exit to the shed yard, with a Warship, Peak, Hymek and a collection of shunters on view. If I remember correctly, the Metro-Vick Co-Bo was also to be found at the bottom end of the yard, in use as a carraige heating unit. 1635 was later renumbered to 47053 and ended its days at Kingsbury in March 2007. During 1970/1971 a number of flyash trains were run to points in Somerset, in connection with the construction of the M5 Motorway, consisting of a rake of HAA hoppers and hauled by a pair of South Wales based Class 37s. Here we see one such train heading west at Bristol Temple Meads, headed by 6996+6603. 6603 was later renumbered to 37303/37271/37333, whilst 6996 became 37296, then eventually found fame as DRS loco 37423. In the background can be seen a Bubble Car on the Beach Buggy service to Severn Beach. Sat31Jul71. Scanned
