With the sectorisation of the railways in the 1990s, 26 of the 50 Class 90s were transferred to the Railfreight Sector, and reclassified as Class 90/1. A number of them were later reclassified to 90/2, but soon reverted back. A rather scruffy 90140, in Railfreight Distribution colours, sits at Crewe. Sat26Nov94. Scanned

With a collection of vans in tow, including what looks like a Syphon G 4th in line from the loco, Brush Type 4 No 1628 stands at Crewe. Just one of hundreds of similar locos at the time, this particular machine later found fame as being chosen in 1974, and renumbered to 47601, as a test bed for a Ruston 16 cylinder 3250hp engine in connection with the Class 56 project. Then in 1979 was again renumbered, to 47901, and fitted with a Ruston 12 cylinder 3300hp engine, which resulted in the Class 58. Sat29Jan72. Scanned

Taken on the same day as the previous photo of D216, is Coronation Pacific No 46241 'City of Edinburgh', with a southbound express. Scanned from a print taken by my dad when he took a much younger me to Crewe for an afternoon. Not able to put an approx date: ie "circa 1962" on the date thingy, so for now I'll make do with 29Sep62
