Great Western standardisation. It could be one of several classes because the cab layouts are very similar. In fact it's GWR Manor 4-6-0 7828 Odney Manor. Visiting for the Autumn Gala the engine worked again over the weekend and will finally leave the GCR this week. I never got a firing turn on it but did manage a couple of short cab rides. This one was from the shed to the Up Through which I drove. The lack of crew is explained by the fact we were still on shed! The signal box can be seen through the driver's window.

GWR Manor 4-6-0 7828 Odney Manor double-headed with Modified Hall 6990 4-6-0 Witherslack Hall on the recent Photo-charter. The pair burst from under Rabbit Bridge - GCR Bridge 347. The conditions on this grey & rainy day weren't perfect for the charter but both locos looked and sounded immaculate.

Great thumbnail, not so sure about the full size... Best to view it as an abstract painting perhaps. GWR Manor Class 4-6-0 7819 Hinton Manor blasting away from Aberystwyth with the Cambrian Limited railtour - the narrow gauge Vale of Rheidol line is on the left. Aberystwyth's former engine shed was used by the VofR engines at this time although the tank and coaling stage were out of use. A still from my video.

GCR Winter Steam Gala 2019. During our lay over in the Down Carriage Sidings I was left alone for a while on the footplate of our visitor from the Severn Valley Railway, Great Western Railway Manor 4-6-0 7802 Bradley Manor. So what do you do after you've made sure the fire and water are in good shape and you've pulled some coal forward? Take a photo from the tender of course!

Great Western Railway Manor Class 4-6-0 7802 Bradley Manor climbs away Rothley's Section signal with the 11.20 from Loughborough. At this point the engine is on the 1 in 176 gradient. 7802 was visiting the GCR for the Winter Gala in January but stayed on for a while before returning to its home base at Bridgnorth. Wishing everyone HFF and have a great Christmas weekend & a Happy, Healthy & Prosperous 2023.

On the Saturday of the 2019 Winter Gala I was rostered fireman on visiting Great Western Railway Manor 4-6-0 7802 Bradley Manor. On our first trip we had double-headed with Modified Hall 6990 Witherslack Hall on the 09.00 train to Leicester but this shot was taken prior to our second trip, the 11.15, and we were waiting in the Down Loop in Loughborough as 6990 departed steamily out of the station with the 10.45 train.

It was the first day this year that the Gloucestershire & Warwickshire Steam Railway had run a two-train service. Great Western Manor 4-6-0 7820 Dinmore Manor was on the 14.40 service. We were heading back to the Midlands from Somerset and made a reservation on this train. Here 7820 is seen at Cheltenham Racecourse station, the southern terminus, taking water while running round its train of seven coaches. It was a very enjoyable journey for us but with only 6 passengers in those 7 coaches hardly a commercial proposition for the railway!

The girls show an interest in GWR Manor 4-6-0 7827 Lydham Manor on the 10.30 Dartmouth to Paignton train. Or is their interest directed more at the young fireman?? The Dart Valley Railway plc was formerly known as the Torbay Steam Railway but today operates as the Dartmouth Steam Railway. It was the only heritage line running trains in the Southwest during our holiday.

It's the first day of the GCR Winter Gala and I was on the prep crew watching our visitor from the Severn Valley Railway, Great Western Railway Manor 4-6-0 7802 Bradley Manor come off shed. The photo was taken from Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0 46521 while Chris & Alex are on J94 0-6-0ST 68067 - both locos were being shunted by the Jocko onto the road 2 pit.

Despite the grey-sky forecast the sun shone brightly on Great Western Railway Manor Class 4-6-0 7802 Bradley Manor as pulls away from Rothley with the 11.20 from Loughborough. At this point the engine is on the 1 in 176 gradient while the coaches are still over the short approx. 1 in 100 climb out of Rothley Brook.

GWR Manor 7821 Ditcheat Manor lays a smoke screen as it takes the Down Loop in the October 2004 Steam Gala. Seen from the footplate of LNER O4 63601on a train that has just arrived at Loughborough station Platform 2, 10th October 2004. The two signal posts control movements northwards from the Down side of the station. The larger Stop signals are actually fixed and only the smaller subsidiary signals are used. This is because if either of the Stop arms were pulled off trains would be authorised to depart northwards towards East Leake. This could be embarassing, to say the least, as the shed building now straddles the main lines! Hence the subsids allow trains to pull forward but not to proceed beyond the yard.
