HFF Leicester England

3 for the price of one! HFF, HBM & HWW.... The Leicester & Swannington Railway opened in July 1832 only 7 years after the Stockton & Darlington. It was not only the first public railway in the Midlands but also ranks as the 6th such undertaking in the country & the basis for the later, greater Midland Railway. The first train was actually driven by George Stephenson. It was initially built for freight, mainly coal, but at Leicester West Bridge a station was opened. The station closed to passengers as early as 1928 but the residents of Tudor Road in the background continued to enjoy the sounds of steam-hauled freight trains until1966. HFF to everyone. Have a great weekend.
