HFF Prince's Dock Liverpool 21st February 2019

The Prince's Dock footbridge on the riverfront of the Mersey in central Liverpool. The dock was named for the Prince Regent. Still unfinished, it opened on the day of the Prince Regent's coronation as George IV in July 1821. Ferry services from Prince's Dock finally ended in November 1981 when P&O Ferries closed their Liverpool - Belfast overnight service. The dock subsequently closed to shipping and was partly filled and since 2007 has been redeveloped with office blocks, a hotel and flats plus this bridge. HFF to everyone. Have a great weekend!

The world famous riverfront with the 3 Graces catching the warm evening sunlight. The low white building on the left is the cruise liner terminal on Prince's Parade and is on the site of the old Mersey Docks and Harbour Board Riverside railway station. Prior to the 1960s transatlantic liners docked here to connect with trains to London Euston via the Waterloo Goods branch. The grey metal lattice bridge is the ramp for the Isle of Man ferry. We had taken the commuter ferry from the futuristic white building at Pier Head to Seacombe on the Wirral side of the River Mersey - our ship the Royal Iris can be seen returning in the foreground. We then walked along the front and round Birkenhead docks to Hamilton Square where we took the Merseyrail train back to Liverpool.
