It may not be a steam train but it certainly produced plenty of smoke which lingered in the gloom of the tunnel for quite a long time!
This working out of Knaresborough is 2C24, the 10.29 Leeds to York service, and Northern Class 170 diesel multiple unit 170475 has just departed from the north end of the station through the tunnel.

To the south of Lockwood station, the ex-LYR line to Sheffield passes over the valley of the River Holme by an impressive 476 yards (435 m) long stone viaduct to Berry Brow.
An unidentified Northern Class 144 Pacer diesel multiple unit crosses with 2B13 the 11.12 Huddersfield to Sheffield train.

First Trans-Pennine Class 185 diesel multiple unit crosses Union Mill (Batley) Viaduct just south of Batley station as seen from Back Station Road.
It is travelling south on the ex-London North Western Railway Thornhill LNW Junction to Holbeck East Junction line opened in 1848. Next stop is Dewsbury to the south.

With first light on the horizon this is the view south from Mansion Lane bridge Halifax as Grand Central Class 180 diesel multiple unit heads towards Dryclough & Greenland junctions and onwards to London with 1A59 the 06.56 Bradford Interchange to London King's Cross.

An unidentified TransPennine Class 185 dmu heads towards Stalybridge station with the first eastbound train of this Sunday morning - 1K11 the 08.32 Manchester Piccadilly to Hull service. The Pennine mountains fill the horizon.
The two large cotton mill buildings, Clarence Mill to the left & Whitelands Twist Mill on the right, have been put to other use but it is good to see them still standing.

A diesel multiple unit heads into Toddington station on the Gloucestershire & Warwickshire Steam Railway past a forest of lower quadrant semaphore signals. The Cotswold Edge forms the backdrop which looks positively mountainous due to the telphoto effect.

The non-electrified side of Leszno station sees two new Koleje Wielkopolskie (Greater Poland Railways) diesel multiple units.
We had just arrived on the 12.51 from Wolsztyn in SA139-009 and we returned later that afternoon on a SA108-010. The 4-wheel railcar SA108s seem to be the Polish Pacers!

On the eastern side of Lancaster station Northern Rail Class 142 Pacer dmu 142035 waits in Platform 5 with a local evening train to Morecambe. I made a day journey up to West Coast Railways at Carnforth to renew my PTS. After driving to Crewe from Leicester I caught a Virgin train to Lancaster, changing for the short run to Carnforth.
