DR Class 23-10 2-6-2 35-1097 powers around the sharp curve on the section south out of Meissen to Nossen with a Dresden Steam Festival special to Rosswein. This was originally a main line to Leipzig but after the Second World War one track of the line was dismantled to provide reparations to the Soviet Union. The heavy rain held off for a while fortunately but there was still a steady drizzle.

British Railways Standard 9F 2-10-0 92214 sits behind the dollies in Loughborough yard. We had just taken over the loco from the morning crew and were waiting before hooking up to the stock for the 14.00 Gold Datex turn. The fire & water were in good shape so time for a quick snap! Stanier Black 5 4-6-0 44971 taking water at the platform end of Preston station early on a Sunday morning near the end of BR steam. Myself & a friend had arrived at Preston station at approx. 05.00 in the morning after trying & failing to sleep on the footplate of a Black 5 at Lostock Hall shed, on a park bench in Leyland & at the cop shop in Leyland. We didn't really sleep in the waiting room at Preston either because this engine was pottering about. Later that morning we took the train to Carnforth to check out the shed before returning to Sheffield in the evening. An everyday scene about to disappear for ever.

Hi Ho, Hi Ho, it's off to work we go. We were on our way to relieve Neil & Jon on Stanier 8F 2-8-0 48305 when we saw the train arriving in platform 1. Considering it had left for Leicester over 10 minutes late this took us a bit by surprise. The impressive line up of steam engines in shed road 3 is matched by the impressive line up of diesel engines in the Up Through which includes Class 25 D5185 and Class 37 37714 seen here.
