We took a ride to Denia on FGV's (Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana) metre gauge line on Monday. It was another perfect Spanish November day, temperature in the low-20ºs and the sky blue . This is a view along Carrer Sant Francesc in Denia old town with the castle walls in the distance. HWW to everyone. Have a great day.

MAN 2500 series diesel railcar 2509 on the 16.22 tram/train service to Denia approaches Altea's 1911 station on the Alicante - Denia narrow gauge line. Today this route is L9 of FGV (Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana) and interfaces with the main Alicante overhead electrified tram system at Benidorm Intermodal station several kilometres to the right. We took the tam/train from Calpe & in both directions it was packed with passengers. HFF everyone! Have a great weekend.

One last sunrise over the beach at Calpe as we waited for the Benibus to take us to Alicante airport & home.

The salt-lake known as Les Salines in Calpe is a favourite feeding ground for flamingoes. They are not too photogenic as they feed because their long beaks and necks are always under water so the only time to grab a shot is when they briefly come up for air like this.

"The Sky is the Limit" On the 29th floor of the Hotel Suitopia the views from the Skybar are terrific. This is looking westwards. The notch in the mountain is the Cañón del Mascarat through which the road and rail thread between Calpe & Altea. The mountain seen beyond is one of the 1000m+ peaks of the Aitana range above Benidorm.

So much colour in November! A walk to visit the remains of a Roman aqueduct near Altea. The ruins were underwhelming but the flora en route were impressive. HFF to everyone. Have a great weekend.

On top of the hill in the centre of the Old Town of Altea is the Parròquia de Nostra Senyora del Consol church with its distinctive blue domes. HFF and have a great weekend.

A view of the Mascarat ravine from below with a train just visible on the far bridge. The Morro de Toix & Bernia Mountains form an east-west barrier between Calpe and Altea on the Costa Blanca coast and the only way through is this very narrow ravine at Mascarat. Since the earliest days the track through the canyon was only passable on foot or by donkey. The first narrow coastal road and classic stone bridge at the front was abandoned & replaced in recent years by the middle bridge carrying the N-332. The railway bridge opened in 1914 & carried the E.S.A., or Cia de los Ferrocarriles Estrategicos y Secundarios de Alicanterail, a metre gauge railway that runs from Alicante to Denia on the Costa Blanca - now operated by FGV. Like the road the railway runs through tunnels either side of the ravine and the train only briefly appears in the daylight to cross the bridge making photography tricky. Especially from this angle! The southern terminus of the former ESA metre gauge line from Alicante to Denia was at La Marina station and the original 1913 station building still stands. FGV (Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana) tram 4231 is seen entering the station from the north on an L5 service which will terminate a few 100 yards off to the left at Puerta del Mar. Birthday celebration with Cava.

Today Guadalest is a tourist town in the mountains north of Benidorm but the medieval castle on a ridge overshadowing the Guadalest valley was originally built in the 11th century, during the Muslim rule over the Iberian Peninsula.

The Red Wall in Calpe has no connection with the recent Tory UK election wins in the North of England! In fact La Muralla Roja is a postmodern apartment building in the Manzanera area of Calpe designed by the architect Ricardo Bofill and built in 1973.
