Wheels within wheels.
Stanier 8F 2-8-0 48624 was used on the Driver Experience trips plus the 13.00 dining train & I was rostered fireman. The other steam engine in operation was BR Standard 9F 2-10-0 92214. Here the 9F was going off shed when I was under the 8F cleaning the ashpan.
Both locos are showing off their pony truck and leading coupled wheels.

The art of Technology.
The right hand piston gland of Stanier 8F 2-8-0 48624 had been blowing all day so by the time we came on shed at Loughborough the mixture of oil and condensed steam had created a pretty sticky coating over the leading wheel and motion.

All signals are showing Red.
Al watches out for the S&T men who will manually reset the facing points over to Loughborough platform 2 so we can rejoin our train with Stanier 8F 2-8-0 48624. They were sorted but it took us 25 minutes to get there which resulted in the 13.15 service to Leicester departing 10 minutes down.

Stanier 8F 2-8-0 48624 on the front of its Class 7 train of mineral wagons in the Down Loop at Loughborough station. For the first and only time that day the sun almost shone so the front of the engine is reasonably lit.
This was the 11.45 minerals to Swithland Sidings and I had put a few rounds on in anticipation of our departure, hence the smoke, although in the event we left 5 minutes late.

Fortunately a warming fire had been lit the night before so 8F 2-8-0 48624 was not stone cold although it had no pressure on the boiler. After checking round firebox and smokebox to make sure all was well, a layer of coal, a load of wood and a pile of parafin-soaked rags later saw me light her up at about 06.15.

8F 2-8-0 48624 is held at a red signal at the Loughborough Down Inner Home to allow Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0 46521 exit platform 1 with the 13.15 dining train. Watched by Albert, this train is just entering the section to Quorn on its way to Leicester North.
