Overshadowed by Sheffield Hallam University campus & new office blocks the former MIdland railway station on the left in the Sheaf Valley was very quiet on this strike day.
The only railed transport in motion were Sheffield's Supertrams & Siemens-Duewag unit 121 is seen here heading to Malin Bridge.
HFF everyone. Enjoy your weekend.

A view west from the hillside of Sheffield city centre. Midland railway station sits low in the Sheaf valley.
South Street Park Amphitheatre in the foreground is an open-air amphitheatre used for performances, screenings and installations. This area was the site of poor slum housing until cleared in the 1950-60s to make this green space near the heart of the city.
HFF to everyone and have a great weekend.

Northern Class 142 Pacer 142021 waiting in platform 1A with the 09.24 local stopping train to Scunthorpe. This train will call at my home town station of Thorne South on the ex-Great Central between Doncaster & Scunthorpe.

LNER A3 4472 (60103) runs eastwards through Sheffield Victoria station light engine to wait for the stock of its special train to arrive. It's running with one tender so the engine number is nowhere to be seen, just a LNER crest on the cab-side and the letters LNER on the tender-side.
The 1500v DC overhead wires are evidence that the Woodhead route is still open & this ex-Great Central Railway main line is still in business. The station and its passenger services only lasted until January 1970 however.

Sidings just east of Guide Bridge station on the Great Central Woodhead Route from Manchester to Sheffield in May 1968. EM1 electric E26014 waits to leave the up sidings. A line of at least 3 stabled electrics can be seen behind.
This photo was taken from the footplate of British Railways 9F 92118 (curve of the tender bottom left-thought about cropping it but would have excluded other locos) while en route from Heaton Mersey shed in Stockport to Newton Heath steam shed in north Manchester. Our train was made up of the 9F and 2 Stanier 8Fs.
