The Barbican was the original dock area of Plymouth but is now a bustling tourist destination. Many Americans visit Plymouth to see The Mayflower Steps where the Pilgrims set sail for North America to found the new colony.
HBM to everyone.

Taken from the train (GWR 2C77 the 16.18 from Plymouth) while crossing the River Tamar on Brunel's fabulous Royal Albert railway bridge.
Riverside on the left was the site of the Saltash Ferry which was had been in operation since Norman times and was the only crossing of the Tamar here until the railway arrived. It ceased to run in 1961 when the adjacent Tamar Road Bridge opened.
Devon to the left, Cornwall to the right.

Everyone waves at a steam train. On the classic seaside stretch of railway near Dawlish the crowds are happy to see Great Western Railway King 4-6-0 6024 King Edward II double-heading with British Railways Standard Pacific 70013 Oliver Cromwell with the Poole to Plymouth Devonian railtour.
The sea was pounding the sea wall and spraying the track & train as we passed. Note the red sandstone cliffs, of Devonian age, which make this area so attractive.
Best appreciated large.

Brunel's Royal Albert Bridge, built for the Cornwall Railway in 1859, spans the River Tamar separating Devon and Cornwall. A short four-car GWR Class 43 diesel HST - power car 43098 Walton Castle at the head and 43155 on the rear is just about to exit Cornwall with 2P17 the 13.50 Penzance to Plymouth service.
The HSTs have been progressively withdrawn from the ECML and Midland routes but they are still very active in the southwest.
HFF & have a great weekend everyone.

The girls show an interest in GWR Manor 4-6-0 7827 Lydham Manor on the 10.30 Dartmouth to Paignton train. Or is their interest directed more at the young fireman??
The Dart Valley Railway plc was formerly known as the Torbay Steam Railway but today operates as the Dartmouth Steam Railway. It was the only heritage line running trains in the Southwest during our holiday.
