HBM Cordoba Andalucia Spain 11th November 2023

The exterior of Cordoba Central station looks like a furniture warehouse but its modern multi-platformed interior is light and airy and works well. I only made a flying visit but in that time several trains came and went including this AVE (Tren de Alta Velocidad Española) high speed service arriving from Madrid. HBM to everyone.

The Hague Netherlands 3rd June 2023

The Hague's other railway station - Hollandspoor - is much more impressive with a fabulous glass & steel train shed. Here NS (Nederlandse Spoorwegen) Class 186 quadruple voltage electric locomotives E 186 35 & 41 top & tail an earlier Intercity train from Amsterdam to Breda via Rotterdam racing non-stop southeastwards through HS. NS plans to replace these push-pull sets with high speed multiple units in the future. In 2018 NS took a sale-and-leaseback agreement with Akiem for the entire Class 186 engines they owned to cover the period until then. Notice the "Akiem" painted beneath the left-hand window .

DB electric 185 198-9 on a tank train heading north towards Koblenz passes the ruins of Ehrenfels Castle and the vineyards on the east bank of the Rhine. Together with the Mäuseturm and the Klopp Castle it formed a northward barrier from the 13th Century, in order to protect the territory of the archbishopric of Mainz. The castle, which was used in times of war as a hiding place for the cathedral treasury of Aachen, was extensively destroyed in 1689.

The sun is slowly rising over Valencia North Station the main railway station of the city of Valencia. RENFE electric multiple unit Cercanias 447, 005M has just arrived at the terminus and is disgorging its load of commuters. The curve of the impressive overall roof frames the scene.

What was set up as a pretty boring static shot of DRS Class 57 "Thunderbird" loco 57308 from the station car park was transformed as this Virgin Pendolino appeared at great speed out of nowhere just as I pointed my mobile phone!

Manchester Dinting Station Derbyshire 1969

27 Feb 2006 2 351
Dinting Station British Railways. LNER EM2 electric E26055, Prometheus, on a Sheffield to Manchester passenger train on the Woodhead route waits at the west end of the platform, Autumn 1969. The crew wait for the "rightaway" to Manchester Piccadilly in the weak sunshine. Despite being a modern electrified railway the Woodhead closed completely in 1981. One nameplate from this engine was sold in December 2002 for £10200. The nameplate is not obvious in this view but the small oval 1953 Gorton Works, Manchester, maker's plate can be seen on the cabside. The rail glimpsed in the bottom left is the line to Glossop. The current limit of the truncated Great Central/LNER Woodhead route is to the east of Dinting.

THEN Guide Bridge Manchester 4th May 1968

Sidings just east of Guide Bridge station on the Great Central Woodhead Route from Manchester to Sheffield in May 1968. EM1 electric E26014 waits to leave the up sidings. A line of at least 3 stabled electrics can be seen behind. This photo was taken from the footplate of British Railways 9F 92118 (curve of the tender bottom left-thought about cropping it but would have excluded other locos) while en route from Heaton Mersey shed in Stockport to Newton Heath steam shed in north Manchester. Our train was made up of the 9F and 2 Stanier 8Fs.

Steam, diesel & electric at Nuneaton station 10th September 2005. A Virgin Pendolino with a non-stop train to the northwest passes LMS Black 5 4-6-0 45305 blowing steam from its safety valves while watering in the background & an EWS Class 66 diesel in the sidings. 45305 departed 50mins late for Crewe Open Day due to vandalism to signalling in Water Orton.
