Early morning mist hangs in the glens while the rising sun turns the mountain tops red. Seen from the window of the Euston to Fort William sleeper train pulled by EWS Class 67 diesel 67007 which I had taken from Crewe the night before. One of the delights of taking the Scottish sleeper trains, whether to Aberdeen, Inverness or Fort William (I have slept on all three), is waking up at about 07.00 and opening the window blind to stunning scenery like this. A great way to start any day!

Dawn over the River Soar floodplain. I was headed for the Great Central Railway at Loughborough on the A6 & I just had to stop (it was 03.45am so not busy) and grab a shot of this combination of beautiful colours and mist over the river. HFF to everyone. Enjoy the weekend.

I have photographed sunrises & sunsets over Penyal d'Ifac - the Phoenicians' Northern Rock (Gibraltar is the Southern Rock) - many times but I finally made the effort to climb it last Friday. An early start meant that I got to see the Rock silhouetted against the pre-dawn sky from the beach front. HBM to everyone. Enjoy the start to the new week.

The windows on Rue d'Eglise catch the glint of the rising sun in Bollezeele. I can recommend the Hostellerie Saint-Louis, a Logis de France, for an overnight stay in northern France.. Best seen large - press Z.

Morning has broken but there's not a lot of light to show for it on shed at Loughborough. The rain fell continuously as we prepped Stanier 8F 2-8-0 48305 but by this time we had about 90psi in the boiler and she was coming to life. Not so BR Standard 9F 2-10-0 92214 alongside which was not in service on this day.

A West Yorkshire scene taken from New Hey Road at Ainley Top. Huddersfield town centre lies deep in the fog-bound valley to the left. Castle Hill 7 km to the south east stands proud on the skyline.

The patisserie on Rue de l'Eglise is an inviting beacon in the pre-dawn half-light of Bollezeele town centre. The fence around the bell tower of Église Saint-Wandrille is silhouetted against the blue sky. HFF and have great & peaceful weekend.

First light is on the horizon in this view south from Mansion Lane bridge as an unidentified Northern Class 195 diesel multiple unit heads upgrade towards Halifax and onwards to Bradford & Leeds with 1B99 the 06.49 Hebden Bridge to York service.

I got to see sunrise & sunset on this Gala day turn. This was sunrise. Rory (taking photo) & I were prepping BR Standard 9F 2-10-0 92212 in road 3 on the left but as our first train wasn't until 10.30 we were last off shed. This gave us a grandstand view of the other 7 steam locos going off. Here, catching the morning sun, the steam from our engine merges with that of the two Class 2 2-6-0s, Standard 78018 & Ivatt 46521, plus by the water tank 73156 is adding its contribution.

It's the early morning shift change at Dongbolizhan. With the sun slowly rising two Sandaoling Coal Railway JS 2-8-2s wait in the sidings. 8190 on the left and 8173 on the right both head empty coal wagons and will soon reverse back into the open cast pit to reload.

On the Lisbon Hash House Harriers Midsummer Dawn run. At 06.21 the sun is rising in the sky over Estoril. HFF & have a great weekend
