Great Central Railway Steam BR Standard 4-6-2 70013 Oliver Cromwell heads up the hill out of Leicester with a train for Loughborough.

A busy scene in Loughborough Locomotive Works. Great Central Railway. BR 2MT 78019 under restoration, . The engine returned to steam late in 2004 but at this time the boiler was still out in the yard being worked on prior to reinstallation in the frames. The grey vertical pipe is a multiple blastpipe that was later replaced by a single blastpipe after a period of service. It steamed much more freely afterwards. After spending time at Tyseley having specialist firebox repairs carried out it returned to the GCR & is back in service.

British Railways Standard 2MT 2-6-0 78019 is brand new & just out of its box being in steam for the first time in Loughborough yard. Alongside is GCR 8K LNER O4 2-8-0 63601.

Sidings just east of Guide Bridge station on the Great Central Woodhead Route from Manchester to Sheffield in May 1968. EM1 electric E26014 waits to leave the up sidings. A line of at least 3 stabled electrics can be seen behind. This photo was taken from the footplate of British Railways 9F 92118 (curve of the tender bottom left-thought about cropping it but would have excluded other locos) while en route from Heaton Mersey shed in Stockport to Newton Heath steam shed in north Manchester. Our train was made up of the 9F and 2 Stanier 8Fs.

Loughborough station, Leicestershire & LMS Black 5 4-6-0 45231 is brewing up ready to depart. The signal had not been pulled off yet so I still had time to drop down onto the Down side to take this photo, prior to firing 45231 on the service train to Leicester.
