A sailing boat passing the lighthouse near the mouth of Sydney bay. We spent a week in Sydney back in 1979 en route to Medan in Sumatra. Having said that I'm not sure which lighthouse this is. Any ideas? Thanks to Graham I now realise this is Hornby lighthouse and the pic was taken from the harbour cruise ship.

We were en route by boat from Jakarta to Pulau Seribu in the Java Sea when we passed this classic sailing ship carrying timber probably from Sulawesi. It made a fine sight. Lots of other working sailing ships in the background.

The Barbican was the original dock area of Plymouth but is now a bustling tourist destination. Many Americans visit Plymouth to see The Mayflower Steps where the Pilgrims set sail for North America to found the new colony. HBM to everyone.

On the ferry from Ibiza to Formentera looking over the rear of the ship as we left the harbour at Eivissa. Another ferry boat is tied up at the dock.

The preserved SS Robin moored/mothballed at the Royal Docks in East London. Built in 1890 the Robin is the only complete Victorian steam ship in existence and the only one left fitted with original steam engine and boiler, she is also the last large coastal cargo steam ship surviving of several thousand built around the world between 1850 and 1950. HFF to everyone & have a great weekend.

Indonesia Pulau Seribu 1980

Pulau Seribu sailing ship carrying wood from Sulewasi to Jakarta. The wooden framework on the right is a fishing platform common in the shallow water all over Indonesia. The photo was taken early morning en route from Jakarta to Pulau Seribu on a geological field trip to study the coral reefs. I know, it's a dirty job but somebody has to do it.

Rock Cornwall 13th May 2021

When the tide is out at Rock/Padstow the river Camel becomes an area of wide sandbars. The famous Doom Bar at the mouth of the estuary was very dangerous to shipping in the days of sail and even today boats can come to grief on it. It's a nice pint too...

Jakarta Sunda Kelapa Java Indonesia January 1998

A labourer walks the plank carrying planks. They are teak which had come from Sulawesi (formerly known as Celebes) on this beautiful wooden sailing freighter. As can be seen the harbour was full of them. A real glimpse into the past.
